A very insightful article about the influence of religion in Ethiopia; it particularly touches on the sociocultural impacts of the Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity on the society, even on those who are Protestants, or those who are not even Christians at all. The writer, though a foreigner, understands well what makes Ethiopia culturally and religiously different from other African countries; and he seems to suggest that such a difference can be the reason why outsiders often fail to understand the nature of Ethiopians and why things are the way they are over there. It is quite refreshing to read such a well-thought article by a foreigner; as an Ethiopian, you come across so much negativity thrown at your country from the outside, even from fellow Africans, sometimes by people who have little knowledge about the country but act as if they know it inside out, and oftentimes by individuals who have no clue about our culture, history, tradition, religion, value, sociopolitical structure, geography, etc, but who are quick to to make monstrous statements—basing their judgements on their ignorance and prejudice.
